Strong Bad Email #223

A detective Homestripe Runner and his sister a stuffed cat need Strong Bad's help.

Characters: Strong Bad, Jenny Searchanfind (Easter egg), Homestar Runner, Puppet Homestar (Easter egg)

Page Title: Compy Tition

Transcript[edit | edit source]

(Strong Bad is sitting at the Compy Tition.)

STRONG BAD: It's email time, everybody everybody!

Dear Strong Bad,
My sister and I are detectives, and our biggest case involves finding the color of something. How would you go about solving it?
Sincerley,
Ipnftusjqf Svoofs

(Strong Bad says "that unpronounceable guy again" instead of "Ipnftusjqf Svoofs" and reads "Sincerley" as spelled.)

STRONG BAD (typing): Well, Mr. Unpronounceable, you and your sister will be pleasantly surprised. How do I know this? Because Homestripe and his sisters have a case like that.

(A circle appears on a white background.)

STRONG BAD (voiceover): One of the methods they've used to try and solve their case goes like this: (rapping to a beat) First you squish it, skew it, and turn it all around. Squish it, skew it, and turn it all around!

(As he says this, the circle is squished, skewed, and turned all around, changing color with each transformation.)

STRONG BAD: And when that doesn't work, then it's time for you to play Color Wheel Roulette!

(The circle turns back to how it originally was, and then starts changing color rapidly.)

STRONG BAD: No Whammies, no Whammies!

(The circle stops changing color and is white like before. Cut back to the Compy Tition.)

STRONG BAD: But suppose it turns out that it's a pattern you're trying to find. Homestripe has more info on that. Why don't you email him about it?

(Zoom out to see Homestar standing next to Strong Bad.)

HOMESTAR: Hey, Strong Bad?

STRONG BAD: What?

HOMESTAR: I think Homestripe's the one who sent this email. "Ipnftusjqf Svoofs" (says Ipnftusjqf as the letters that spell it) is just "Homestripe Runner" in a special code!

STRONG BAD: Oh. I get it now.

(Zoom in to the Compy Tition.)

STRONG BAD (typing): Sorry about that, Homestripe. I didn't realize it was you who sent this! Anyway, suppose it turns out that it's a pattern you're trying to find. Just use the same methods as you would with solid colors! (stops typing) So, Homestripe, if you have any more info on pattern-finding, just let me know.

(The Paper comes down.)

Easter Eggs[edit | edit source]

  • Click on "My sister" after Strong Bad says "My sister and I are detectives" to see a picture of a stuffed cat.
  • At the end, click on "same methods" to see the circle squished, skewed, turned all around, and color-wheel'd again, but this time, using different patterns. It stops at a picture of the stuffed cat from the first Easter egg.

STRONG BAD (voiceover, rapping to a beat) First you squish it, skew it, and turn it all around. Squish it, skew it, and turn it all around! (stops rapping) And when that doesn't work, then it's time for you to play Color Wheel Roulette! No Whammies, no Whammies!

  • At the end, click on "solid colors" to see the stuffed cat again.

JENNY SEARCHANFIND: Hey, I'm all solid colors!
(Puppet Homestar shows up.)
PUPPET HOMESTAR: And those solid colors are all red and white! With just a hint of pink. And the blue flower, of course.

  • At the end, click on "Homestripe" to see a scene with Homestripe.

HOMESTRIPE: What the...?! He didn't even mention width times height!

Fun Facts[edit | edit source]

Explanations[edit | edit source]

  • The stuffed cat that appears in each Easter egg is Jenny Searchanfind, a character hr made up for his Mr. Men fanstuff. Jenny is one of the three sisters of Mr. Dudeman, a Mr. Men character based on hr (read his user page for more).

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • This email is one hr may actually send to Strong Bad, along with switched minds.
  • So far, this is one of 3 emails with a completed Flash file, the other two being time travel and homesar.
  • The label on the disk in the floppy disk container reads "georganism".

Remarks[edit | edit source]

  • In this email, Puppet Homestar's mouth opens when he talks, but does not move. This is because his only appearance in this email is in the style of a comic.

Inside References[edit | edit source]

  • At the beginning, Strong Bad references the Intro by saying "everybody" twice.
  • The "Ipnftusjqf Svoofs" code from switched minds is used for this email. Homestar reveals that it stands for "Homestripe Runner".
  • Strong Bad references redesign during most of the email.
  • Width times height is mentioned again.

Real-World References[edit | edit source]

  • Like in redesign, Strong Bad says, "No Whammies, no Whammies!", a famous phrase from the game show Press Your Luck.

Fast Forward[edit | edit source]

  • The stuffed cat makes an appearance again in a Runner Toon Adventures episode.
